Tankless water heater is it worth it?
Hot water heating accounts for about 20% (or more) of the average North American household’s annual energy costs. With energy prices rising day by day it is becoming important to take a closer look at where the money is going.

The average yearly cost for a conventional gas or electric storage hot water heater is approximately $600 for a 1300sq.ft. 4 member family home. It lowers or increases depending on how many people live in the house and on their particular water usage habits.

Conventional hot water heaters store water and maintain the water temperature to the temperature setting on the tank - usually between 120° and 140° F. That means keeping water hot even when you do not need it - while you are at work; while you are sleeping; while you are away on holidays.

These “standby” losses represent 20% to 30% of a household’s annual water heating costs.

Another thing that annoys all of us, is waiting for the water to heat up because someone took a bath before us. The tank of a conventional water heater has limited amount of hot water. After that is used you have to wait for the tank to get hot again.

Throughout the rest of the world, where energy costs have consistently been higher than in North America, different methods of heating water are common.

Tankless Hot Water Heaters began appearing in the United States and Canada about 25 years ago but have been used in Europe for the last 50 years.

Unlike "conventional" tank water heaters, tankless water heaters heat water only as it is used or when you open the hot water. Opening a hot water faucet ignites the powerful burners and the computer monitors the water temperature and adjusts the burners according to the need. High demand, high heat. Low demand, low heat.

Because the efficiency rate of tankless water heaters is about 20% higher, averaging around 90% and going up to 96% and there is no stand by losses, savings on your utilities are evident.

Some models can be mounted on the exterior of a home, freeing up valuable floor and closet space on the inside. The unit can be placed in a recessed box, flush-mounted and painted or textured to match the exterior of the home.

Tankless water heaters can also be used for supplementary heat, such as a booster to a solar hot water system, or snow melting systems, or to meet all your hot water needs. Schedule a free inspection and a tankless water heater free estimate.

Before Remodeling your kitchen consider lighting

Planning to remodel your home? Don't know where to start?

Two of the most popular rooms to target are often the kitchen and the bathroom. These are both high traffic areas of the home, and can become subject to wear and tear that starts to show earlier that in other parts of the house.

While cabinet and counter space or accommodating more modern appliances is usually a big part of the reason why people want to renovate their kitchens, it is important to also remember that kitchen lighting has a lot to do with the look and feel of the room.

While building homes, many contractors simply include the basic overhead lighting fixtures that will provide general light in the kitchen. Every once in a while, a builder will get creative and also include some under cabinet lights or accent lights.

But for the most part, the lighting in a home’s kitchen is not given much creative thought. For those that look at their kitchens as more than just places to cook and clean, a remodeling project can provide the perfect opportunity to breathe some much needed life into this highly utilized room.

Kitchen lighting comes in many different shapes and sizes, and the style and fixture types that are right for you depend mostly on what kind of kitchen you have and what you are hoping to be able to accomplish with the lighting. Before you start selecting fixtures and cutting holes in your ceiling, take some time to assess your kitchen. Is it open or closed?

Are the ceilings high or relatively low? Is the kitchen also doubling as an office space or dining room? Is the current décor light or dark in tone? Answering these questions will put you in a good position to know what you need both functionally and stylistically.

Help U Build will design your kitchen or bathroom professionally and satisfactory for your needs.

Kitchen Remodeling with a small budget

Preparing your house for sale? Remodeling your kitchen on a tight budget?

When a prospective buyer enters the home one of the first things that come to his mind is kitchen. Even though rooms and bathroom are important but kitchen is given the top most priority.

It is very expensive to renovate a kitchen. If a person wants to renovate the kitchen within a limited budget how can it be done? The first thing that a homeowner would renovate in the kitchen is the cabinet. But kitchen cabinets are very expensive to replace so the best thing would be to refinish them. Cabinet becomes visible when you see it from the sides and when the door is opened. If the home owner replaces the door it can be an inexpensive solution. Kitchen countertop pulls the whole kitchen design together. When a prospective buyer sees the kitchen the countertops have to be perfect. Many people do not change countertops and concentrate only on cabinets or flooring. A perfectly good countertop will give a pleasing look to the buyer, so it is important to change it. Therefore see what designs will match your cabinets and look for a material that will suit it. Instead of buying a new stainless sink get a modern set of faucets. If you do not like the kitchen sink it would be better to change it. A sink does not cost much. Just remember that a good design with a well crafted backsplash will gain attention. Natural stones like granite and marble are inexpensive and beautiful. If a homeowner applies granite or marble tile on the surface it may enhance the beauty of the kitchen. Ceramic tile has a nice effect but it does not appeal to all people. The best kitchen flooring is ceramic tile because it is available in various colors. Vinyl flooring also has great designs. But like a cheap laminate countertop, it can cheapen the kitchen. Homeowners should also give equal importance to lighting. Right lighting can put a great face on any style of kitchen. Under the cabinet lights are cheap and easy to install. They focus lights on the work areas. If there is wall space try scones with a dimmer switch for a medium light. The overhead light can be an ornate fixture that, with the scones and the hardware, gives a layered effect to the kitchen. LED lights aids direct illumination right to the countertop for working ease. These light sets are available in 120 volt or 12 volt DC units which operate a transformer which also provide lighting for inside the cabinets. To get more from your kitchen contact a kitchen contractor expert Help U Build to show the possibilities.

Wood staining Or Wood sanding

Hand made projects such as staining or refinishing wood cabinetry a quality sanding job will significantly contribute to the workmanship of the final piece. To achieve the best results, wood should be as smooth as possible before paint or stain is applied. Adhering to these sanding best practices will put you on track to achieve a polished wood finish:
Sanding against the grain can create deep scratches that are difficult to remove. Though experienced woodworkers may sand against the grain in certain circumstances, they typically finish by sanding with the grain to remove imperfections. As a general rule, always sand in the same direction as the wood grain.
The appropriate sandpaper to use will depend on the project at hand, but in general, larger imperfections like scratches and dings should be sanded out with coarser sandpaper before final touches are made. Scratches left by the coarse sandpaper are to be expected, and are acceptable as long as they are uniform across the piece. These scratches will be smoothed when you follow up with finer grit sandpaper.

Since a good sanding job can be tedious, you may feel the temptation to rush through it. Though sanding may not seem immediately gratifying, any imperfections that are missed during sanding can show through in the final piece. Taking the time to do the job right will pay off with a beautiful smooth finish that serves as a clean and uniform foundation for stain or paint.

Here at Help U Build we take the extra step toward a flawless staining or painting finish

New Windows and Home Value
As home remodeling and DIY projects continue to grow in popularity with homeowners across the nation, people are finding all sorts of new ways to refurbish their homes. Some of these methods include home additions, new paint jobs, landscaping, and space reorganization. All of these methods can work to a certain degree to help your home look younger, lovelier, and classier than it’s ever appeared before. For the best way to add grace, sophistication, and extra years to the exterior of your home, however, you needn’t look farther than your own front door. Or windows, for that matter.

Having your dated, unfashionable doors and windows replaced is one of the best investments you can make in your home. Two of the most common questions that realtors are asked when displaying a home for sale is “How old are the windows?” and “How sturdy is this front door?” If a realtor cannot offer a positive response to these questions, your chances for receiving the full value of your home plus a hefty profit will likely be diminished.

Your home’s curb appeal

is about so much more than the resale value, however, though that in itself is a valid concern. There are many people who have settled permanently into their homes, entertaining no thought or desire whatsoever to move away. Although these folks have found their dream homes at last, many are still discontent with the look and lost appeal of their house as it ages. Replacing your windows and doors isn’t simply a wise investment for the future—it’s also a stylish investment for the present.

With hundreds of varieties of windows and doors to choose from on the market today, you shouldn’t have any trouble finding the look you’re going for in your home remodeling. To begin, it would be wise for you to determine which type of window you’re replacing. The average home typically has at least two styles of windows within, some of which may or may not include casement windows, gliding windows, and even skylights. Replacing windows such as these are not difficult for window and door installation experts. If you’re interested in replacing one type of window with another, that’s not an impossible feat, either. It’s not uncommon for someone with ordinary-looking windows to wish to add flare to their home by replacing them with specialty windows that are individually designed.

On top of all the types of windows there are to choose from, there are even more door options to consider. The majority of doors manufactured today are built with specialty insulation cores inside that help your house maintain its interior temperature. Although insulation cores typically come standard, the sky is the limit on the number of options you have for your front door. You choose the color, the material, and the hardware for your door, as well as the durability that is dependent on your climate. For example, if you live next to the ocean, it would be wise for you to choose a door that’s specially designed and equipped to handle storms and salt water.

Whether you are in the market to purchase new windows, doors, or both, you have so many styles and options to choose from that you may not even know where to begin! These decisions, however, will affect the future resale value of your home as well as the present affectionate you feel toward your home and its appearance.

An average home owner spends hundreds if not thousands of dollars to heat /cool a house only to have about 30-40% of that energy get lost out our windows. Every once in a while a meet a homeowner that tells me "It will take years to get the return on the investment of new windows or New A/C unit". It is still an investment vs. throwing your money out the window.

An old A/C unit consume an average 30% more energy. A new Air Condition unit will save 30% or even more on your utility bill. New ducts and filter will help reduce the allergens at the house.
